Literary Lawrence

Lawrence has a vibrant literary community—with readings nearly every week at bookstores, bars, and restaurants in downtown Lawrence. These readings are curated by KU English Department faculty, graduate students, and Lawrence's literary citizens.

Graduate Reading Series

The Graduate Reading Series holds monthly readings throughout downtown Lawrence. Organized by the Graduate Creative Writing Committee, the series features graduate students new to the program in the fall and current graduate students in the spring. At the end of the academic year, the series throws a celebratory reading for creative writing graduate students finishing their degrees.

Taproom Poetry Series

Curated by Megan Kaminski, Jim McCrary, and Danny Caine, the Eighth Street Taproom houses the Taproom Poetry Series, which brings in national and international poets, in addition to supporting emerging local writers and creative writing graduate students.

Big Tent Reading Series

The Raven Bookstore hosts the Big Tent Reading Series, featuring stories, poems, and one-act plays. Readers include creative writing faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as upcoming and notable national and local writers.
