Careers

The Graduate Program in Creative Writing aims to train students for successful careers within and beyond academia. A faculty member in the English Department is designated to help prepare students for job applications and interviews, while the Graduate School and English Department fund students to attend and present at conferences in order to advance their scholarship. Student-run organizations, such as SAGE, organize events for students to present their work to their colleagues and professors before attending panels at conferences.

Recent graduates of our program have gone onto positions in academia, publishing, and nonprofit organizations, among other careers. Our past graduates now serve as tenure-track or tenured faculty members, edit national literary journals, run literary and academic presses, and have published critically acclaimed books.

If you are a current graduate student, please email the Job Placement Advisors for the English Department: Philip Barnard at philipb@ku.edu, or Jonathan Lamb at jonathanplamb@ku.edu
